Zinc in your diet

Zinc is found in many everyday foods, with varying bioavailability depending on their origin. Animal sources provide zinc that is relatively well absorbed, while plant sources contain compounds that can limit its assimilation. A varied diet helps to cover intake, but certain life stages or dietary patterns can make it more difficult to meet requirements.

Good to know: zinc from plant sources is often less well absorbed than zinc from animal sources, due to the presence of phytates. Varying your sources and choosing a well-assimilated form such as bisglycinate can help support your intake.

Zinc supplements: the bisglycinate form

Among zinc food supplements, several forms exist: gluconate, citrate, oxide, and bisglycinate. The latter, known as chelated zinc, binds zinc to an amino acid and stands out for its bioavailability, digestive gentleness, and assimilation. This is why we chose it for Zinc Mama and our maternity formulas. You can thus support your intake with just one capsule a day, easy to incorporate into your routine, alongside a balanced diet.

Zinc throughout motherhood

Micronutrient needs evolve throughout life's stages. Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction, which is why it features in our formulas from the trying to conceive (TTC), preconception, trying for a baby phase through to postpartum. After giving birth, as the body recovers, supporting normal skin and hair takes on its full significance. Depending on your stage, you can opt for a complete formula or a targeted zinc supplement. It is also compatible with our keratin supplement for hair.

Did you know: unlike other minerals, the body has no true zinc store. Regular intake, through diet and if needed a supplement, therefore contributes to maintaining a good zinc status on a daily basis.

Precautions

A food supplement does not replace a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Observe the indicated daily dose and keep products out of reach of children. Prolonged high-dose zinc intake may interfere with the absorption of other minerals such as copper: it is advisable not to combine multiple sources without medical supervision.
